Committees and Volunteer Opportunities
The Mattawan Band Boosters are involved in numerous activities and events that help support and enrich our band program. The Band Boosters have many needs every year and volunteering is a great way to not only support the program but also get to know fellow band parents. The following list is a partial list of the many committees that need volunteers throughout the school year.
Description: Helping to organize and distribute high school uniforms during the summer and band camp and organizing uniform pick-up at the end of the season. Collect marching shoe order forms and placing the order as well as distributing shoes upon arrival. Coordinators make phone calls to get volunteers to help with distribution and simple alterations.
Time Commitment: Coordinator spends time over the summer organizaing uniforms when they arrive back from the cleaners – usually 1-2 days of work. Volunteers to help out with organizing and distribution can be done in shifts depending on availability. Distribution day is usually the second Wednesday of band camp, 9A-4P.
Description: Various volunteers needed to help run Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Wrestling concessions throughout the school year. Many volunteers are needed especially for football concessions – many experienced and new volunteers working side-by-side. Studens and children are welcome to come help out as well.
Time Commitment: Many different days and times available. If enough volunteers are available concessions can be done in shifts.
Marching Band Potluck Committee
Description: Help coordinate the marching band potluck – help with set-up and tear down, pass on information to parents about the potluck.
Time Commitment: The marching band picnic usually takes place on a Saturday in October following our third or fourth competition and is held in either the middle school or high school cafeterias. Coordinator assembles a small volunteer staff in advance. Volunteers only help the day of the potluck.
Marching Band Banquet Committee
Description: The band banquet is a semi-formal to formal event held at the end of marching season. Dinner is provided and there is an awards presentation immediately following. Two coordinators, one for planning a meal and one for planning decorations, are needed. Volunteers needed to help decorate and cook/serve food the day of the banquet.
Time Commitment: Usually held the last weekend of October and takes place in the high school. Coordinators start planning a month in advance. Volunteers are only needed for the day of the banquet.
Hospitality/Social Coordinator Committee
Description: Coordinator and volunteers will help to build bonds and relationships with other band parents over the course of the school year.
Events include helping with desserts after the concerts – set-up before the concert and clean-up after, going to open house events to communicate band info to families, and creating other unique experiences to make all families feel welcome.
Time Commitment: Coordinators make phone calls to staff these events. Volunteers needed for three high school and three middle school concerts.
MSBOA Band Festival Committee
Description: This is a Middle and High School event held in February/March at the high school.
Coordinator makes phone calls to staff this event. Volunteers work in concessions during the festival. Volunteers host a dinner for the judges and visiting directors.
Time Commitment: MSBOA Festival is held on a Friday after 3pm and/or Saturday 8am til 3pm. Volunteers needed to help in concessions and to help with the judges’ dinner during shifts on both days.
Description: The committee is responsible for handling various fundraising events throughout the school year. These include the Peel-it Card fundraiser in the fall and Little Caesars Pizza kits in the spring and usually one additional fundraiser during the year. One coordinator needed for each fundraiser.
Time Commitment: The coordinators will organize the handouts, collect the orders, and staff the pick-up days. Usually a couple of days a week for the duration of the fundraiser.
